Charles Leonard "Pete" Cofer, 63, of 110 North Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at his residence. Mr. Cofer, a native of Isle of Wight County, was a retired employee with the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church, a WWII U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the George F. Dashiell Post #49 of the American Legion. He was the son of the late C. J. and Evelyn B. Cofer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucille Hollowell Cofer; one daughter, Mrs. Mona Cofer Wyatt of Courtland and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren F. Taylor and the Rev. James A. Cales officiating. Interment was in St. Luke's Memorial Park. Pallbearers were J. W. West, Leonard Cox Jr., B. F Dixon, William L. Reid, Carl C. Irvine and John S. Huber.
