Obituary:
Kenneth Michael Countie

My son, Kenny, met Sheila Labarre, through an online dating service . . . .
Kenny went to Hampton, NH to meet Sheila at the Ashworth Hotel. In a
conversation Sheila told Kenny that, "she wanted to be with him on her farm,
in Epping, NH". In Kenny's mind, that meant he was going to live a new life
- A new beginning. Kenny was a kind, caring, gentle young man, who could not
socially defend himself and Sheila took advantage of him. She was a master
of evil, who deliberately tortured my son, Kenny, & stripped him of all his
dignity and self-worth.

On March 21, 2006, Sheila murdered Kenny, by poisoning and stabbing him to
death. She then dismembered and burnt his body.

The quilt shows four aspects of Kenny's life. The first, Kenny with his
Family - Kenny's life revolved around his family. The quilt shows him with
his younger brother Bryan. The Hockey picture - Kenny excelled in playing
hockey, reaping the benefits of being coached by his father. The U.S. Army -
Kenny wanted so much to be in the Army, after watching old Army and Western
movies. Kenny did his basic training at Fort Benning, GA. Lastly, Christmas
- Kenny's favorite holiday by far was Christmas. His excitement and
eagerness for Christmas always brought so much laughter and excitement
throughout the house.

TEWKSBURY -- A crowd of about 700 mourners packed St. William's Church yesterday as friends and family paid their final respects to Kenneth Countie, the victim of a murder last month in Epping, N.H.

As thoughts of how he died weighed heavily on the funeral attendees, Rev. William Smith reminded them of how Jesus would want his followers to cope with the situation.

"Sometimes we come across people who are very, very bad and they do horrible things," he said. "Within our own minds and within our own hearts, we're filled with vengeance -- we want to get even -- we want them to suffer like we're suffering.

"But then we remember what Jesus has taught us," Smith said. "We have a God of compassion, a God of mercy, a God of kindness, a God of forgiveness."

In a letter prepared by Countie's father and stepmother, Kenneth and Suzanne Countie of Tewksbury, the grieving parents asked mourners to keep thoughts of their son alive.

"Remember Kenny -- remember his life," a woman read. "Don't take each other for granted -- tomorrow may never come."

Countie, 24, was allegedly killed by Sheila LaBarre, 47, of Epping, on March 21.

He had lived in Wilmington prior to moving to LaBarre's 115-acre Epping farm a few weeks ago.

He was reported missing by his family in March after they had not heard from him for several days.

LaBarre was formally charged in Portsmouth, N.H. District Court last week with murdering and then burning the body of Countie.

She was arrested in Revere last Sunday, three days after a warrant was issued.

LaBarre changed her appearance -- from a blond with dark roots to purple-streaked red hair -- and had $80,000 in cash and cashier's checks on her when arrested.

Mourners listened to several speakers describe the young man who was known for his love of singing and hockey. Countie's mother, Carolynn Lodge, of Billerica, said a few short words during a Mass that moved many of the mourners to tears.

"Kenny, my son, my love, I wish you were here," she cried. "My heart aches, for I know I'll never see your smiling face again."
