Alfred Elmer Wood, 79, of Victoria, Va. died November 2, 2006.

Mr. Wood was a devoted husband and father, a member of the Victoria Baptist Church, an avid pilot and flight instructor, life member of VFW Post 9954 in Victoria, a veteran of WWII in the U.S. Army, a 50 year member of the Victoria Masonic Lodge #304, and retired as chief dispatcher for Norfolk-Southern Railroad with 50 years of service.

Mr. Wood was instrumental in having the Lunenburg Airport built and was a longtime member of the Lunenburg Airport Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Overby Wood; his daughter, Carol F. Wood of Hampton; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Cliff Early of Greensboro, N.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Elise Wood of Long Island, Va.; and his beloved cat "Tom."

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday November 4, 2006 in the Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria, by Dr. Stanley Hare and Rev. Louie Overton.
