The Angel of Death has entered another Montrose home and taken away a young husband and father, in the death of Roy Pringle Steel, only son of Commissioner and Mrs. H. P. Steel of Olathe. Mr. Steel passed away at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at St. Luke's Annex, after an illness of two weeks. The young man was stricken with a bad cold which developed influenza about two weeks ago and was taken to the hospital where a few days before his death, pneumonia developed. He was a progressive young farmer and had been his father's assistant on the ranch this summer, but recently had been busily engaged in assisting in marketing the apple crop in town. Mr. Steel had lived in Montrose most of the time for the past eleven years and was well and favorably known here. He was a man of pleas acted(?) and was liked by everyone. He[sic] prominent and well known in this city, was born in Galena, Mo., March 10, 1890, and with his parents and sister came to Colorado in April 1901, the family then settling in Lamar. In 1907 they moved to Montrose and located on Riverdale farm, their present home. Roy went from Montrose to Montana a few years ago, and September 3, 1916, was married in Monarch, Mont., to Miss Alice Brazee, who with their tiny daughter Gladys survives and is heart-broken in her great sorrow. In June this year Mr. Steel moved to Montrose. In addition to his wife and baby daughter and his parents, Mr. Steel is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard Deisher and Miss Gladys Steel, all of Menoken. The family is prominent and well known i[sic] this city, and their sorrow is a matter of universal grief for friends thruout this section, for the death of the young citizen is a general loss to the community. Mr. Steel had expected to enter war service before such a great while. Funeral service in charge of Undertake[sic] W. L. White, Rev. W. F. Clark, being the officiating clergyman. The date will be announced later. Mr. Steel's father-in-law is coming to attend.
