Henry Clement was the son of Henry Dionysius and Helena Cissell Simpson. He enlisted in the Union Navy and served on the USS Curlew. He graduated from the St. Louis College of Medicine (Washington University) in 1874.
He married Anna Louvina Flannagan in 1872 and they had 3 children: Cletus Clement (1873-1899); Agnes (1875-1876); and, Francis (1878-1878).
He married Harriet Ann “Hattie” Lanham (1855-c1920) in 1879. They had 6 children: Grace Gertrude (1880-1898); Agatha (1883-?) m. Mr. Crow; Henrietta Helen (1886-?); Eugena (1888-1888); Darwin (1890-1890); Linus Lycurgus (1893-?); and, Inez Imogene (1894-1942) m. August Beckman.
According to family members, Uncle Clem was a famous cancer specialist--specializing in herbs, roots, and flowers.
He spent the last years of his life with his daughter, Inez Beckman. Although the National Archives lists Henry as buried in Camp Bulter National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, he was buried next to his daughter in Calvary Cemetery
