M. Wayne Carter age 60 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, a veteran of United States Army and a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #22 in Athens, GA. He had been currently employed by Airport Auto Auction. He previously worked for IJ Company, Capitol Foods and Sysco for many years. His passion was cooking and serving people. Mr. Carter helped out with special needs adults. He was a devoted Christian man and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris & Cecile Lesseur Carter. Survivors include his second wife, Sandra Brown Carter; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Wayne and Ashley Towns Carter of Athens, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Casey Carter Evans and Ted Evans, Jr. of Watkinsville, GA; Tyler Wade Matteson, Matthew Gibson Carter; sister and brother-in-law, Amelia and Paul Stephenson of Athens, GA; nephews Tom Stephenson and Dr. Wayne Todd Stephenson. The funeral service was at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Cummings officiating. Interment was at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Walter Grubb, Al Grubb, Mike McGuire, John Douglas, Trent Long, and Brad McAmis.
