Richard "Dick" Deane Abbey was born in San Francisco on July 22, 1926. He passed away on May 28, 2008. Richard volunteered for the Merchant Marines and worked in rescue and salvage. He then transferred into the U.S. Army and served proudly during wartime. He met the love of his life, Angie and married in 1953 for 55 years. He entered the S.F. Police Department in 1956 (80th recruitment class) and worked at Potrero Station and the Accident Investigation Bureau. He retired as a sergeant at Park Station. He joins his daughter, Karen. Rich is survived by his loving wife, Angie; children, Gayle (Sid) and Kevin (Valerie); grandchildren, Jason (Michelle), Brett, (Sherri), Tara (Scott) Danielle, Mckayla, Colleen, Andrew and great grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Hailey, Sarah, Tanner, Colby, Korbin and Maddison. Friends and family are welcome to Visit on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 5-8pm and attend a Vigil Service at 7pm at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's Funeral Home, 977 S. EL Camino Real, San Mateo. The Funeral Mass is on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, 11:45am at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 2715 Hacienda St., San Mateo. Graveside Services will follow at the Italian Cemetery, Colma. Contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the Hope Cancer Society or Pathway Hospice.
