Albert Lester "Red" Chaffin, age 87, 1087 Seventh Street, Erwin, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. A native of Dante, VA he was the son of William McKinley and Myrtle Lewis Chaffin. He served during World War II in the United States Army with the 42nd division under General Clark. He was stationed in France, Germany and in Austria where he met his future wife, Lucy Gumiezny. He then worked for the CSX railroad as a conductor for 32 years. He was a Mason. He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Garnett Rudder. He is survived by: His wife: Lucy Gumiezny Chaffin; Erwin Son: A.L. "Spud" Chaffin, Jr. and wife Susan; Erwin Daughters: Marilyn Rawlins and husband, Raymond; Knoxville, TN Carol Anne Kurland and husband, Paul; Green Bay, WI Seven Grandchildren Eight Great- Grandchildren The family wishes to send a very special thank you to Adventa Hopice and to the doctors and staff of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at seven o'clock in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Rob Moor will officiate the service with Janice Johnson providing the music. Visitation will be held from five o'clock until the time of service. A graveside service will be held on May 28, 2008 at eleven o'clock at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
