The Rev. Alexander Fletcher Gunn, born in Lumberton, NC, and family settled west of the Thompsonville area in the northern part of Gonzales County along with Rev. Gunn's brothers, Francis Littleton, William and Henry.
A Methodist minister and farmer, Rev. Gunn and his wife originally built an eighteen by twenty foot log cabin but very soon enlarged it by hauling lumber by ox-cart from Columbus, Texas. An underground cement cistern was made for their water supply. In this home they reared eight children, six sons and two daughters: Walter, John, Alexander Fletcher Jr., Orell, Wade, Hilton, Sue and Bell. Rev. Gunn was the minister at the Thompsonville Methodist Church.

Rev, Alex Gunn local Methodist minister, living near Thonpsonville, died at his home on the 2nd at 3:30 p.m. Bro. Gun was one of our oldest and best citizens, and we feel safe in saying that Bro. Gunn gained more in his departure than all of his relatives and friends lost. May the God of Heaven grant that all who knew him take his example and pass over the cold stream of Jordon as calm as Bro. Gunn.
