Julian, who resided in Magnolia, Delaware, served as a Private First Class in the 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He had served in the Marines for one year and two months at the time of his death.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Son of Austis and Lelia Hale Courtney.
