Floyd C. Flagg, 78, of 25 Alton St. died Wednesday at a local hospital after a long illness.

He was born at Campobello Island, New Brunswick, a son of Charles and Margaret Matthews Flagg, and came to this country at an early age to live in Perry, Maine. He attended schools in Eastport.

Mr. Flagg was employed by a South Portland shipyard during World War II and later established East Deering Garage, an automobile repair business. He retired from the business in 1955 and later sold automobiles reconditioning supplies in the Portland area.

He was a member of the Masons.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Pauline Floyd Flagg; five sons, Charles of Lockport, Ill. and John, Richard, Robert, and William, all of Portland; five daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Barbara) Melideo of Waltham, Mass., Mrs. Lee (Carol) Young of Ladson, S.C., Mrs. Terry (Margaret) McCullough of Scarborough, Elizabeth Wright of Medford, Mass., and Patricia Barnes, also of Scarbrough; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Muriel Wolfe and Frances Cheney, both of Waltham.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Chapel A of Jones, Rich, and Huthins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. The Rev. Robert Webster will officiate. Burial will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
