Peggy Lou Sweeney, 76, of Disputanta, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Dinwiddie Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Kingstree, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Troy and Velley Russell Smith; and the widow of George W. Sweeney Jr. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Sweeney; one brother, and one sister.

Mrs. Sweeney was a retired accountant for the Virginia Department of Health. Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her children, Rose M. Lawhorn and husband, Wayne, of Disputanta, George W. Sweeney III and wife, Pam, of Chesterfield and Rebecca I. Smith and husband, Ken, of Panama City Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, Troy Sweeney, Isaac Sweeney, Michelle Lawhorn, Andrew Lawhorn and Amanda Sweeney; two great-grandchildren, Quinnlan Sweeney and Gavin Sweeney.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m on Monday, February 9, 2009, in Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, Virginia, with the Reverend Jim Pfost officiating.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the family residence, 20300 Little Road, (Matoaca) Petersburg, Virginia 23803. Arrangements by the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 3935 South Crater Road.
