Obituary for Welita J. Kirchmann
Welita J. Kirchmann, age 88 of Bourbonnais passed away on Saturday
February 3, 2024 at Bickford House. She was born on June 15, 1935, in
Chebanse, the daughter of Weldon and Anita (Johnson) Smithers.
Welita married George Kirchmann on October 3, 1955. George
preceded her in death on February 17, 2020.
Welita graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Kankakee and the
College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. She worked as a school nurse for over
20 years at the Kankakee Area Special Education Cooperative.
Welita was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was involved in
Ladies Aid, Sunday School, Choir, and the monthly newsletter mailings.
Surviving is her daughter Mary (Bruce) Fitzpatrick of Arizona; one son,
David Kirchmann of AZ; two brothers, Traves (Jean) Smithers of
California, Jerry (Jayne) Smithers of Florida; three grandchildren, Ryan
(Ann Wood) Fitzpatrick and Sarah (Andrew) Doerfler, Alex (Brooke Lynn
Martin) Kirchmann; 1 great grandchild and one on the way, and several
cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Welita is preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; one
brother and one son.
Welita was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of
the 4 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd
Manor, or Uplifted Care.
