Mrs. Barbara B. Young, 66, of 118 Ridgeside Road, Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Friday, May 9, 2008. She was born in Anderson, S.C., the daughter of the late George W. Brown and the late Alice I. Brown. She attended Girls High School. She graduated from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga., and earned a masters degree in social work at Columbia University, New York City. Upon graduation from Columbia she resided in Atlanta and worked in child welfare, and child development in the Atlanta area. Upon her marriage to David H. Young III, of Rockmart, she moved to Chattanooga, Tenn. and found employment as director of mental health services at Joe Johnson Mental Health Center. Later she became the executive director of the Mental Health Association of Chattanooga. When the AIM Center, in Chattanooga, was founded, she became its program director. She retired from the AIM Center in the late 1990s. Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, David H. Young, III. A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m., in the Rockmart Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Burch Fanning officiating. Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the graveside arrangements.
