...let me welcome you to MAX'S PLACE...
Let me tell you a little bit about him. He was born September 9, 2003. Max was not supposed to be the dog I bought. The puppy mill sold the one I had spent a week bonding with while I raised the money (and had put a substantial deposit on). They tried to give me another beagle, but he wasn't what I was looking for, so they got me another. Max. He was small and most likely the runt of the litter. Not knowing too much about "kennel dogs" - I knew little of Kennel Cough. Their vet gave him a clean bill of health and after they sold him to me, they suggested I take him to a vet the next day. Well, Max had a severe case of Kennel Cough. Some $800 later, he was back home and making himself part of our family. For a year and a half he would wake me up with "kisses", sleep on my feet, run errands with me and just follow me everywhere. He loved to please! He would sit and bow for treats, chase balls and bring them back - we had fun. On April 21, 2005, Max was on the bed playing as usual. After he jumped down, he began to cough. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a few coughs. Sometime during the night, I awoke to find he was not on the bed, but under it. He wouldn't come out. In the morning, instead of waking me with kisses, he arrived at my pillow drooling heavily and trembling. He was in shock. I took him immediately to the vet. They ran the blood tests, did the x-rays, put him on intravenious fluids and gave him an antibiotic. Nothing helped. The vet called me and suggested I take him to the 24 hr animal hospital - they had better diagnostic equipment. I lived only 5 minutes from my vet. By the time we arrived, Max had died. The blood work showed that he was septic; an infection in the blood stream. There was nothing that could have been done - the infection was severe. So, on April 22, 2005 I lost my best friend. In the time since Max's death, I have divorced and moved. Max helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life! I will never forget him and be forever grateful to have known him and had him for that short time! I love you, Max.
