Mary Tinnin Barber -MAURICE, LA - Private Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 3, 2009 in New Wavery, Texas for Mrs. Mary Margaret Tinnin Barber, 81, who passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center on Friday, July 31, 2009. -Rev. Jeff Blunt will officiate the services. -Interment will be held in East Sandy Cemetery in New Waverly,

Texas.


-Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Patrick "Pat" Barber of Maurice; one son Terry L. Barber and his wife Paula of Lafayette; one daughter-in-law Lynn Grisham Barber of Warner Robins, GA; one son-in-law James "Jim" Duhon of Maurice; seven grandchildren, Lori B. Carber and her husband Jonathan of Warner Robins, GA; Heather B. Wilkes and her husband Mike of Warner Robins, GA; Patrick Barber and his wife Erin of Warner Robins, GA; Terri Lynn Duhon Peacock and her husband Matthew of London, England; James "Jimmy" Patrick Duhon of Maurice; Jennifer K. Barber of Lafayette; Nick Barber and his wife Marieli of Maurice; five great grandchildren, Matthew, Gracie, Ellie, Sebastian James and Madison. -She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley William Tinnin and Winnie Elizabeth Parrish; one son David Patrick Barber and one daughter Elizabeth "Liz" Ann Barber Duhon; and one sister Lois Jean Parker.


Mrs. Mary was born in Marquand, Missouri in March of 1928. She was raised in Houston, Texas and later moved to South Louisiana.


She was a graduate of the Art Institute of Houston, Texas and was employed by Sears and Roebuck as a fashion Layout Ad designer. She was also a graduate from the University of Southwestern Lousiana with a degree in Elementary Education.


She taught school for many years at Prairie Elementary, Judice Elementary and Indian Bayou Elementary School in Vermilion Parish. She had a passion for teaching and loved her students like they were her own. After retiring from the school system, she enjoyed traveling with her family, and working in her flower gardens.


She was a talented artist and spent many days painting beautiful oil paintings and making stain glass windows. She loved to sew and make handmade quilts. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge No. 35 as well as member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.


She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.


-Pallbearers will be James Duhon, Patrick Barber, Nick Barber, Terry Barber and Pat Barber. -The family would like to offer a special Thank-You to Sheila and Naomi Zeno of Sheila's Offering Hands for taking such wonderful care of our grandmother during her time of need.
