Known as Angela Zevely, she was the second wife of Armand Hammer.

Born Mary Angela Carey in Pittsburgh, PA to James W Carey, a hotel keeper born in Ireland, and Alice C Kelly of Pennsylvania.

She married newspaper journalist Preston B Zevely (Percival "Percy" Blum Zevely) on New Year's Eve in 1919 in New York City. She was an opera singer and for a time used the the professional name Mary Carey.

Her parents apparently died before 1919. They were not named in her wedding announcement to Preston, and she and husband Preston announced the September 1924 engagement of her only sibling Ursula Alice Carey to Charles Frederick Keller. Ursula and Charles' son, Frederick William Robertson , is her nephew.

She was described as a "New Jersey Socialite" when she met Armand Hammer during WWII. They married  in 1943 and operated Shore Isle farm, a thoroughbred black angus cattle farm in Red Bank, New Jersey. The farm was named for Hammer's yacht, the Shore Isle.  Her divorce from Hammer was finalized January 19, 1956 leaving her with a share in the Shore Isle farm.

The estate of a cousin Eleanor Rehill  was reportedly left to her and her sister Ursula per a 1965 article. She also left her estate to her sister Ursula.     .
