George Wesley Bryan, 80, of Oil City passed away on March 9, 2024 at his residence. He was the son of George and Elva (Womer) Bryan, born on July 22, 1943, in Oil City.


He was a graduate of Oil City High School, class of 1962.


He worked at a Christmas tree farm after graduation, Oil City Glass Plant, US Steel Oilwell Supply, tended bar at the Oil City Elks Club #344 and pumped gas at Kwik Fill before retiring. He had been a faithful member of the Oil City Elks Club #344 for 38 years, being Exalted Ruler 5x in all his years of service, helping with Bingo, Memorial Day services and many other things throughout the years. In 2014 he was awarded Elk of the Year.


For many years he enjoyed coaching ladies' softball, where he made many lifelong friends. He also enjoyed bowling in Franklin leagues and going to tournaments. He loved watching a very talented baseball player which was his great-great nephew, who came to adore his Uncle George. He enjoyed playing pool in the club league for many years with the Elks Teams and was officer of the year in 2001.


He was a long time Chicago Cubs fan, he even has a signed Harry Caray picture and was even written up in the local paper after they won the world series in 2016, which he was very proud of. He loved his Green Bay Packers also.


He married Janice Stralka in 1964, and they had 5 children; George Bryan and significant other Paula of Oil City, Jeff Bryan and wife Eva of Columbus Ohio, Laurie Phillips and husband Bryan of Rouseville, Michell Collins and husband Mark of Titusville, Karen Goodman and husband Bill of Oil City. He later married Julie Nelson on May 15, 1993, and they had two sons; Matthew Bryan and wife Johanna of Sligo PA, and Christopher Bryan of Oil City; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, with one on the way.


He is also survived by 4 siblings, Peggy Wilson, Sandy Marsh and husband Ron, Gary Bryan and Jimmy Bryan all of Oil City; 2 nieces, 3 nephews and many cousins including Debby Martz.


A memorial service will be held at the Salvation Army in Oil City at 2pm on March 16, 2024, and at the Oil City Elks #344 on Elm Street, Oil City at 7pm on March 16, 2024.
