A short passage from Melissa's 4th grade bio story in 1975 , In honor of Our two childhood dogs named Pepper:
A few years later I was 6 and got a dog from my friend and I took it home and was so glad. It was a Chihuahua and had long hair. She was a red and white, We soon came to love her and soon she had puppies, but we think someone stole them and were very sad, but at last pepper my dog. I never got over it, but I was soon going to have something else not to get over, My mother was going to have a baby. It wasn't long either. So of course we had to name it so I start right away. I thought of many names . I made a list of 100 names, But we soon thought of one it was Heidi, Heidi Renae , and just in time.
Little Heidi was born she grew like a weed and soon was two and a half. Heidi , Pepper and I would go and play and Pepper would jump and lick us. but soon a terrible thing happened. One day I was looking for Pepper and I saw her and she wasn't moving! She was dead!! I started sceaming, mother took me in, I cried very bad, That night daddy berried her. I am 9 now and never have forgot Pepper or the puppies, I have another dog, his name is Pepper too, he is a Scottish Pug and is very beautiful. He reminds me of my other Pepper. I love all my animals an want to be a dog specialist when I grow up.
