He was in the military from May 12, 1958 to April 17, 1961. Louie served in the Army while stationed in Chicago where he assembled guided missiles.

Louie was married and had two children, Anthony Lee Pelzer (deceased at 39) and a daughter of Cement, Oklahoma. In 1971, he and his family moved back to the Verden family farm for a few years.

Some of his jobs were hauling hay, working for Donald Robertson and then at a feed lot in Chattanooga, Oklahoma. He bought and managed a gas station South of Apache, Oklahoma. Training at the Oklahoma City Electrical School, Louie began working for the IBEW Local Union 1141 in 1978 until he was 62.
