Alice Palmer Ulmer, wife of Thomas Porter Ulmer, died Friday, May 23, 2003. She was born in Augusta, Georgia, daughter of Samuel Warren Palmer and Clifford Quinney Palmer.

The family moved to Jacksonville when she was three years old. She attended local public schools, Gunston Hall Junior College and was graduated from King Smith Studio School in Washington, D.C.

Throughout her life she was active in civic and charitable activities. Among these, she was President of the Junior League of Jacksonville, Regional Director of the Association of Junior Leagues of America, Honorary Life member of the Duval County Unit of the American Cancer Society, first State chairman of Special Events of the Florida Division of the American Cancer Society, member of the Special Events Committee of the National Board of the American Cancer Society, Chairman of the Duval County Board of Visitors of the Juvenile Court, board member of the Jacksonville Symphony Association, Honorary Life member and Founding member of the Council of the Cummer Gallery of Art, and a member of the " Late Bloomers" Garden Club and the Garden Club of America. She was a devotee of fine art and a creative artist in her own right.

She is predeceased by her younger daughter, Thomasina Ulmer Rettberg.
