Charles Wellington Winney born in LeClaire Twnship Scott CO IA to Daniel Henry Winney and Charlotte Elvira Hayward. Charles married Mary Isadora (Dora) Lawyer March 27, 1884, Manning, Carrol CO, Iowa in a double wedding with his sister and only sibling Carrie Belle Winney getting married to John Abner Swearingen. "Dora" Lawyer was a daughter of Jacob and Leah Funt Lawyer and was born 1867 in Boone County Iowa.
They were the parents of Elmer Ellsworth, Claude Edward, Earl William (died as infant), Flossie Geneva, Carrie Elizabeth (died as an infant) Hazel May and Alonzo Wellington Winney.
Charles, Dora, John and Carrie Swearingen along with his parents Daniel Henry and Charlotte Winney left Iowa to make a homestead in Keya Paha County Nebraska. His mother Charlotte and infant son died in Keya Paha and are intured in the Union Cemmetery on Cub Creek in Keya Paha Nebraska.
The family returned to Iowa after a two year drought forced many people in the area to give up their homesteads.
John and Carrie went on to Ainsworth Nebraska, later Enid OK for a time with Daniel Winney before returning to Iowa.
Charles and Dora first arrived in Modesto, California in 1907. They ran a boarding house in Monmouth, CA and later one in Oakland CA. Charles worked in Alameda Naval Shipyard in WW1. After retirement, Charles and Dora would spend time with each of their children in diffrent parts of Calfornia. Charles passed away while staying with his son Elmer in Taft CA. "Dora" Lawyer Winney passed on in 1939 is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery Nevada City, Nevada County CA near son Claude Edward Winney, daughter-in-law Belle Winney and grandson Earl Winney with whom she lived with.
