When Becky was quite small she fell into an open well. Her mother had to fish her out. The child's clothes held her on top of the water, so her mother calmly let a pail down for the child to cling to and the rescue was made.
Becky or Becca as her brothers called her, attended the Santiam Academy and taught one year at Central School, SE of Halsey, Oregon.
As a young woman she worked for a Mr. and Mrs Thomas Brandon east of Halsey earning about 50 cents a day doing housework in a farmers household. While there she met John Wesley Miller (no relation) who peddled meat. They were married in 1880.
