I have a small newspaper article that says a man named Daniel Albert was passing by the house of one James Getty, in East Hamburg, on 13 March, 1857, when James Getty shot him. Apparently Mr. Albert died the next morning, which would be 14 March, 1857. An old feud had existed between the parties.
The trial was covered in detail in successive issues of the Buffalo New York Daily Courier: Trial of James Getty for the Murder of Daniel Albert.
