Original owner of Stewart's Root Beer Drive-In

Sandra K. Houseknecht, 78, of Sugarloaf passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, 2024, at St. Luke Pavilion in Hazleton, following an extended illness.

Born in Bradford on June 1, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Martha (Houser) Hosler and spent the past 53 years in Sugarloaf, after moving from New Jersey.

Sandra was one of the original owners of Stewart's Root Beer Drive-In, Sugarloaf, for 26 years, a notary for 30 years, and had the pleasure and joy of serving and meeting the wonderful people of Black Creek Township as tax collector for 11 years. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Conyngham, Black Creek Food Pantry and devoted her life to serving others, especially her family.

Surviving are her loving husband, Gary Houseknecht, to whom she was married on Aug. 20, 1966, at Harger's Church in Beaver Township; her son, Karl Houseknecht, and his wife, Kimberly, Palmyra, Virginia; a brother, Ronald Hosler, and his wife, Sarah, Norman, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Lauren, Amber and Trey Houseknecht; and several nieces and a nephew.

Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Service Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 467 S. Main St., Conyngham. Burial services will take place at a later date in Mountain Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m.

Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 467 S. Main St., Conyngham, PA 18219 or Black Creek Food Pantry, c/o Sandy Rittenhouse, 90 Red Rock Road, Sugarloaf, PA 18249.
