She married Elijah "Eli" Chalos, Dec 27, 1947, in Terre Haute, and they were the parents of of Nell Rose Chalos & Anna Lee Chalos McAleese.
She and my mother, Irma Ruth Callecod Zambenini were both in the 1946 graduating class of of Otter Creek HS, were in some of the same activities (eg: string orchestra) and were best friends.
I have so many fond memories of Betty from when my mother and I would stop by to visit. She was a really fun and funny lady, who is greatly missed! I always loved hearing her stories of their travels to Greece. Her husband, Eli Chalos, was a Greek-American, who was the brother of the longtime Terre Haute Mayor, Pete Chalos. Eli & Betty were best man and maid of honor at my parents' wedding in Terre Haute and vice versa. They married Dec 27, 1947, and my parents in June 26, 1948.
Her death certificate says she was cremated at Terre Haute Wilbert Crematory, and services were care of Thomas Funeral Home, Terre Haute. No disposition was listed for her cremains. I'm guessing they may be may be at the mausoleum at Roselawn Cemetery were many relatives are buried, or were possibly given to her daughter, Anne Lee. Will have to check with her. For now am putting her and Eli in Roselawn.
Rest in Peace...

*She's not to be confused with another "Betty Riggs" also showing up on Ancestry in the same lists with her when a search is done - a Betty Lou Riggs Montgomery, who was born in Terre Haute in 1929 to George WILLIAM Riggs and Sylvia Esther Kennedy, who is buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale, IN. I'm not sure if they are related distantly.
