Jack F. Abbott died on January 24th in Nashville. He was married for 72 years to Mildred Carpenter Abbott who died in 2020. He is survived by his son Franklin Abbott of Atlanta, his son and daughter-in-law Steve and Nancy Abbott of Nashville, grandsons Jamie Bunch and his wife Angela Risto of Nashville, and John Abbott and his wife Brandy of Bowling Green and their children, Dylan and Ava. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1927 and is predeceased by his parents Homer C. and Jewell Chandler Abbott and his sister Sue Abbott Jones. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Auburn University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and graduated with a degree in engineering. In 1962 he and his family moved to Nashville where he became a partner in Southern Industries Supply Company. He was an expert in the use of abrasives in manufacturing. A member of Donelson Presbyterian Church for 61 years, he served as a deacon and an elder and sang in the choir. He and his wife were members of the Cedar Creek Yacht Club where he was a past Commodore. In 1995 the couple began spending half the year in Ft. Myers, Florida at The Landings where they had many wonderful friends. He enjoyed boating (he held a Captain's license), golf, tennis and singing in an ensemble. There will be a reception on Sunday, March 17th from 1 to 3 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church followed by a private memorial for the family.
