Growing up, Ted was active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the ranking of Eagle Scout. He graduated from H.B. Plant High School, where he was President of the Senior Class, and Florida State University, where he was President of Kappa Alpha Order. He went on to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Ted later obtained his MBA at the University of Tampa. Ted was active in many civic organizations and served as President of the Exchange Club, Merrymakers Club, and University Club and was Chairman of the Tampa Downtown Partnership. Ted was also Commodore of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club and was elected Captain and King of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. He served as a member of the Vestry at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Ted had a distinguished career in banking and commercial real estate, but he was most proud to have worked with his son, John, at DeLaVergne & Company.
A celebration of Ted's life will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 501 N. Marion St. on Tuesday, June 26 at 4 pm. The family will receive friends one hour before the celebration in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Daniel DeLaVergne Gift of Life Fund, TGH Foundation, P.O. Box 1289, Tampa, FL, 33601.
