Civic Leader Vern Bacciarini Dies Suddenly
Merced civic leader Vern Bacciarini died suddenly Sunday in a Merced hospital at age 50. Recitation of the rosary will be Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Mission Chapel of Ivers and Alcorn. Burial will be in the Evergreen Mausoleum.
Funeral services for the Merced businessman and leader of several local organization will be Wednesday at 9 am at the Mission Chapel.
Bacciarini was president of the Merced Golf and Country Club, president of the Merced High School band booster club and state chairman for the Jaycees. He was a life member of Merced Fish and Game Club, the National Rifle Association. He belonged to the Merced Elks Lodge No 1240, American Legion Post No 83 of Merced and served as a director of the Merced Chamber of Commerce. He served as president of the California Automotive Wholesale Association and was on the board of directors of Automobile Services Industry Association.
Bacciarini was also active in politics, serving as the delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City in 1976. He ran unsuccessfully for the 27th Assembly District seat in 1974.
He began his business career in Merced by joining his father, Lud Bacciarini, at Lud's Auto Parts and took over the business when his father died in 1962. He last was employed as a national sales coordinator for New Britain Tool Co.
Bacciarini is survived by his wife, Nancy, a daughter Lisa Fehl and a son, Mark Bacciarini; his mother, Verna Bacciarini; and a sister, Carreen Scahff, all of Merced.
Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association would be appreciated by the family.
