Sarah Alice Broadbent's father, John Broadbent had come to America from England and purchased over 180 acres and built his home on Crane Island. The Broadbent home on Crane Island burned down in 1952. Sarah Alice Broadbent's disappeared and her body has never been found. The case remains a mystery to this day.

Sarah Broadbent's father, John Wood Broadbent, came to America, specifically Amelia Island, Fl. He purchased the island and built a home which sat on over 180 acres. This island was located across the marsh from Amelia Island. According to a relative of the Elmore family, Miss Alice would walk across the marsh between Crane Island and Amelia island to purchase supplies and sell trinkets at what was the Hall gas station on the corner of Sadler and A1A.
