Emsley "Burgess" Hunter Lamb was the 2nd to the youngest child born to Nathan & Susannah Green-Lamb in Asheboro NC. His parents had 17 children of which only 9 have been identified: Sarah Arena b. 1821 (married: Eli Robbins in 1840) d. UNK, Yancey b. 1839 d. UNK, Frances b. 1833 d. UNK (married: Robert Wall 1849), Wm. b. 1835 d. UNK, Clark b. 1837 d. UNK, Dudley b. 1840 d. UNK (Civil War - Confederate VET), & Polly b. 1847 d. UNK.

Burgess served in the Civil War as a Confederate (CO I, 22 INF REG NC). He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and was captured @ Jericho Mills VA on May 23, 1864. He was a POW @ Point Lookout MD & was later transferred to a Elmira NY POW camp.

Burgess married Charlotte Tealue Justice in 1867 and had 7 children all born in NC: Jasper Hunter b. 1868(9) d. 1943 (Married: Nancy Ledbetter), Hiram Newton b. 1870 d. 1930 (Married: Addie Burgess), John H Butler b. 1872 d. 1941 (Married: Flora Ledbetter), Mary "Eliza" Jane b. 1875 d. 1947 (Married: James Marshall), Anther T Nancy b. 1879 d. 1945 (Married: Elbert Clark), Anthorite "Annie" Mae b. 1882 d. 1942 (Married: Everett Allen) and William Burgess b. 1886 d. 1968 (Married: Myrtle Leuticia Metcalf).
