On September 20, 1817, he applied for and received his dismissal from Newfound Church in North Carolina. John's 1st wife has not been identified. They had a total of 8 children including William (1791-1861), Goldman John (1796-1861), Delila (1801-1900), and Catherine (1805-1888).
