She drove a school bus into Pecos for six years, ran a rooming and boarding house several years and operated a school store for years. She invented the chili-burger -- all this plus feeding and cooking for cowboys, building fences, repairing windmills, working cattle and helping in the branding pen. (Her husband, Floyd, was a rancher.)
