Born in Scottsburg, Scott County Indiana to Jon Wesley Akers and Shirley Rae Lewis (Minnie Pearl Norman-birth name) Akers. Mark is survived by one older sister and one younger sister, also two younger brothers.
From his first marriage were born one daughter and one son, from his second marriage was born one daughter, from his third marriage was born one daughter, who all survive. There were no children born in his fourth and fifth marriages.
Mark is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces ; nephews; step children and step-grandchildren as well as his current wife whom he married in 2013. He was predeceased by both parents, a brother Richard who passed in infancy, and by his third wife .
Although born in Scottsburg, Mark was raised in Madison, Jefferson County Indiana, graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1974.
He moved from the Jefferson/Scott County areas shortly after his first marriage ended.
He taught special needs classes and coached at Brownstown HS, Jackson Co IN, leaving after less than four years due to health and personal problems.
Cremation was chosen, ashes with family.
