She was born May 8, 1932, in Temple, Texas to parents Elmore and Thelma Torn. She grew up in Longview, Texas, with her brother, actor Rip Torn (deceased), and always considered it "her home-town."
She graduated valedictorian from Taylor High School in Taylor, Texas. Afterwards, she entered The University of Texas at Austin, joined Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and graduated with honors. It was there that she met the love of her life, Karl Alexander, and the two married after graduating in 1955.
Patricia lived a full life. She taught first grade for a few years, raised three children, and was also associated with Brants Realtors for 10 years. She volunteered at the Van Cliburn Foundation and Cook Children's Medical Center during her later years.
Notably, in 2001, she fulfilled a life-long ambition and wrote a book, Van Cliburn: America's Musical Hero. This was an illustrated biography of Van Cliburn, written for the ages of 6-60. Another achievement that gave her great joy was heading the "Let's Adopt a Star" group for 27 years. The non-profit raises money for the TCU International piano students to help cover their expenses while studying under Dr. Tamás Ungár.
She is survived by: Her husband, Karl; children, Kimberly, Darren and wife, Elise, and Clayton and wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Curtis and wife, Jill, Dianna, David, Lauren, and Rachel; and her two great-grandchildren, Ava and Zackary.
