Charles Edwin Poe, 94, of Effingham, formerly of Doniphan, Missouri died at 11:41 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 1999 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Private funeral services and burial were held at Mt.Zion Cemetery, rural Dieterich. Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery, Dieterich.

Mr. Poe was born September 12, 1905 in Effingham the son of William Edgar and Hester Miriam (Beal) Poe. He married Margaret Obolkovitz Lerner in 1952.

He was retired from Best Homes plant in Effingham with many years of service; was a United States Navy Veteran of WW II, enlisting in 1927 and retiring with 20 years of active service, and 10 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Melvin Eugene Poe of California, John Richard Poe of Washington State; daughter Delores Burke of Washington State; step-son John Lerner of California; brother Henry W. Poe of Effingham and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, five brothers and three sisters.
