He was born in Rochester, IN., on December 18, 1960; son of Edna (Hackworth) Prater Nelson, and the late Robie Prater, Sr. Robie maintained the web site for Casey Co. Baptist Association, and Grove Ridge Baptist Church. He cyber evangelized, and did genealogy, even publishing his own books. He was an avid UK fan. Robie formerly taught Sunday School, worked with the youth group, and served as both coach and assistant coach to his children's ball games throughout their childhood. He often did picture videos for funerals of families he knew; as well as video weddings and special occasions. He and Betty often opened their home to children and animals who needed a place to call home. He was a kind and generous person who would listen to and help anyone. Robie was well respected and loved by many - most importantly he was a Christian, a hard worker, and a devoted husband, father, son, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Betty (Bowser) Prater whom he married on November 16, 1990; his mother, Edna (Hackworth) Prater Nelson children, Jason Leedward Prater, Justin Matthew Prater, David Joshua Bentley, Jeani Marie Prater Patek & (Steve), James Michael Gene Prater, Johnathan Leslie Ray Prater & (Amber), Chelsea Erin Phelps & (Tyler), and Melissa Ashley Cook; siblings, Gary Prater & (Sheila), Greg Prater & (Lena), Chris Jenkins, Christie Funderburk; grandchildren, Maddie Prater, Aiden Prater, Charlotte Chuck Bentley, Ellie Bentley, Harry Bentley, Annabel Williams, and Clarabel Phelps.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robie Prater, Sr.; and a sister who died in infancy, Patricia "Patty" Prater.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Grove Ridge Baptist Church - 4100 Grove Ridge Rd. Kings Mtn., Kentucky with Bro. Kevin Pitman officiating.
Burial will be in Sloans Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 4 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Grove Ridge Baptist Church until time for services on Wednesday.
