Ralph Steve Ausburn, 63, of Powdersville, formerly of Beverly Hills, Calif., died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, after an extended illness. Born in Laurens County on Sept. 28, 1941, he was a son of the late Homer H. and Morene Pritchett Ausburn. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Ralph joined Carnation Company in Waupun, Wis., as a trainee in 1963. In 1964, he went to Los Angeles, Calif. as a project coordinator, transferring to Oconomowoc, Wis., in 1969 as director of technical services. He returned to Los Angeles in 1979 as general manager of engineering, was promoted to general manager of the Can Division in 1982, and then to vice president of the Can Division in 1983. In 1985, Ralph became the president of Carnation Can Division and in 1988 to Silgan Containers Corporation. He continued as president of Silgan until his retirement in 1990. Surviving are two brothers, Randall Ausburn of Powdersville and Charles Ausburn and wife, Janie, of Beaufort; three sisters, Maxie Smith, Sybil Phillips and husband, Robert, and Elain Duncan, all of Powdersville; several nieces and nephews, Tommy Ausburn and wife, Theresa of Powdersville, Traci Cantu and husband, Joel, of Simpsonville, Dawn Gilbert and husband, Tim, of Greenwood, Carole Beckum and husband, Matt, of Aiken, Carson Smith, Keith Ausburn and wife, Renae, Kristy Logan and husand, Ken, Steve Duncan and Kelly Brust, all of Powdersville; and 17 great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Ausburn, and a sister, Patsy Ann Ausburn. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road, with the Rev. Jack Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens. The body is at Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road, where the family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, Chicago, Ill. or to Wren High School, in memory of his favorite teacher, Miss Martha Davis, Piedmont, S.C. The family is at the home of a sister, Elaine Duncan, 113 Roe Road, Greenville, S.C.
