Marcella May Barnes 86, of Columbus, KS died Thursday April 17, 2008 at her home following a illness. Marcella was born May 5, 1921 in Wilburton, KS the daughter of W.A. and Marie (Spencer) Medlin. She has lived in Columbus, KS most all her life and a graduate of Columbus High School. She also is a graduate of Joplin Business College.

On November 8, 1942 she married Joe Barnes in Joplin, MO; he preceded her in death on September 29, 1989. She worked as a secretary most all her life and retired in June of 1983.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus, KS, a member of Good Neighbor Club, Pittsburg NARF Association, 351st Bomb Group, a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Pianist and Organist. She will be most remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include daughter Brenda Boyd and husband David of Columbus, KS; son Gary Barnes of Columbus, KS; grandchildren Ashley Barnes of Omaha, NE, Corey Barnes of Omaha, NE, Lesley Boyd of Columbus, KS and Angela Ivey of Joplin, MO; and one great-grandchild Jordan Ivey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister Imogene Medlin.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday April 21, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS with Rev. Tom Goettel officiating. Burial will follow at the Park Cemetery in Columbus, KS. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Sunday April 20, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home; friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the First Baptist Church. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S.
