Raymond H. Halvorsen
April 14, 1951 ~ July 3, 2022 (age 71)

July 3, 2022 will go down in history as the day the world lost "Handsome Ray" Halvorsen, and what a loss it is. With his wife Marie, daughter Christy, sons Matthew and Michael, and only brother and sister-in-law Don and Cindy by his side, Ray left this world to reunite with his mother, Frances Halvorsen (Perry), father Halvor Halvorsen, and father-in-law Vincent Luciano (who is surely giving Ray a hard time already). He fought a good fight, spending more of the last two years at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania than he liked - which he made well-known to anyone who would listen - the driving force to return home always being his grandchildren: Nathaniel, Charlotte, Bradley, Vincent, Joshua, Vance, and Carley.

Ray's captivating story began in Flushing, New York on April 14, 1951, when he was born "under the veil", as he would so proudly boast, a foreshadowing to his life ahead. After leaving New York, the family settled in West Chester, PA, where Ray spent his teenage years causing mischief for the local police. 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em' rang true, because Ray would later ride with some of those same officers from the West Goshen Township Police Department, delve deep into local politics, and serve for over 13 years as West Goshen Township Supervisor. When he wasn't busy getting caught with stolen tractor tires on his front lawn, Ray could be found singing lead and playing his guitar with the boys in the band. They played all over the area, from Allentown to the Jersey Shore, and opened for Jay and the Techniques and Billy Harner in their heyday. From the stage is where he first laid eyes on his future wife, Marie, but Ray's mustache, cowboy boots, and rock and roll lifestyle were a shock to her father, who dubbed him "Colonel Custer". Over the next decade, Ray dedicated his time to growing Alpha Business Forms from the ground up, while becoming active with the Elks, American Legion, and Worshipful Master of the West Chester Freemasons. The couple went on to raise 3 children whom Ray enjoyed spending time with washing the cars, playing music and baseball, and helping with math homework in between watching golf and NASCAR. He was proud to coach 12 years for East Side Little League and could be found at the top of the bleachers cheering for his sons on the ice at every Bishop Shanahan hockey game. Ray loved taking his family for Corvette rides or boating weekends at the Chesapeake, but eventually traded them in for a model train set, John Deere, and taking his grandkids for rides on his side-by-side. Most of all, Ray looked forward to nothing more than their biennial family vacations to Walt Disney World. He retired in 2016 after serving 15 years as West Goshen Director of Public Works, a position he poured his heart and soul into, and continued to stay active both in politics and on the mower landscaping with his son, Matt. Ray spent the last 2 years giving his incredible team of doctors and nurses a run for their money, but never without his charismatic humor and charm. Ray's eldest grandson decided his Pop-Pop was just like Cyborg, a bionic man, and anyone who was lucky enough to know Ray will agree he was nothing short of an extraordinary, one-in-a-million super-human, whose story will continue to live on in our hearts forever.

We miss you and love you always, Dad.

Raymond Halvor Halvorsen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Halvorsen (Luciano), 3 children, their spouses Christina and Julie, 7 grandchildren, his brother and sister-in-law, and his 96-year-old saint of a mother-in-law Josephine Luciano (Ottaviano).

The viewing will be held Monday, July 11, 2022, from 6:00 - 9:00pm at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 N. Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380. A Masonic service will begin at 8:00 pm.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be forwarded to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Heart and Vascular Center, Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, with special thanks to all the Penn superheroes who helped give us a couple more years with the man, the myth, the legend - Handsome Ray.
