Professional Ice Hockey Player. He was a native American professional ice hockey center who was drafted in the second round, 16th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1971 NHL Entry Draft. He was also drafted first overall by the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the rival World Hockey Association (WHA). Before starting his professional career, he played high school hockey for Warroad High School in Warroad, Minnesota. While in military service, he also played on the United States national ice hockey team on a full-time basis in 1970. During his time in the National Hockey League (NHL), he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars, Kansas City Scouts and the Colorado Rockies. While playing with the North Stars, he received an injury in an on-ice stick fight that left him with a cracked bone around his eye and blurred vision. He never fully recovered from his injury but attempted a comeback with the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA in 1975–76 before returning to the NHL as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies where he only played in nine games before retiring. After retiring, he fell on some hard times such as divorce and drug and alcohol abuse before recovering in 1980.
