NEW ULM: Melvina M. Feirer, 90, of New Ulm and formerly of Searles died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with burial in the church cemetery. Monsignor John A. Richter will celebrate the Mass.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Melvina is survived by her brother, Florian Schnobrich of New Ulm; a sister, Verna Olson of Thornton, Colorado; nieces, Cindy Montoya, Linda Wray both of Thornton, Colorado; nephews, Doug Olson of Denver, Colorado, Steven Schnobrich of Elliot, Maine; and by great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Feirer; a son in infancy; brothers in law, Raymond Olson and Linus Feirer; and a sister-in-law, Nettie Schnobrich.
Melvina Martha Schnobrich was born May 18, 1917 in Cottonwood Township, Brown County to Alfred and Olivia (Gulden) Schnobrich. She attended country school in District 4 and 5. She was united in marriage to Joseph Feirer in November 10,1936.
Melvina started working at the Searles Post Office in 1953 and worked as postmaster there for 27 years until she retired in 1989. Melvina enjoyed cooking for weddings, fishing, croquet, playing cards, bingo and calling bingo at Ridgeway and church picnics. She enjoyed taking trips to Colorado and Maine to visit family. On her 90th birthday many family members and friends celebrated with her. She enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by all.
Melvina is my 2nd cousin once removed.
