The Rev. J. N. Jeffries, eighty six, of Lamar, died at the Memorial hospital at 7:40 p.m., Friday. He had been in consistently failing health due to the aging process for the past several years. For a little over a year he had been a patient in the Chastain nursing home, and was admitted to the hospital a few days before his death.

The eighty six year old man was born October 19, 1883, in Adair County, Missouri, the son of Joseph and Mary (Pace) Jeffries. However he had spent virtually all of his life in Cedar and Barton Counties. He was married October 24, 1907 to Miss Effie Gordon at Stockton.

The deceased was an ordained missionary of the Baptist church and served as missionary minister in Barton, Cedar, Polk and Wright counties during his active years. He augmented the somewhat meager income of a missionary preacher by engaging in the carpentering trade. ahe came from cedar county to Barton County to locate at Lamar in 1924. He remained for a few years and then went to Polk County where he lived at Fair Play. He returned with his family to Lamar in 1937. His wife died at Lamar in 1967.

The deceased and his wife were parents of fifteen children, thirteen of whom survive, seven sons and six daughters. They are Noah, Robert and Phil Jeffries, all of Lamar; John and Jesse of Carthage, James of Springfield, and Paul of Parsons; Mrs. Lester Butler and Mrs. J. O. Mayse of Lamar, Mrs. Forrest McNeely, Mrs. Wallace Shelton, and Mrs. Lloyd Walton of Springfield; and Mrs. Dewey Newman of Carthage. Two daughters preceded their parents in death.

Three brothers, Josie Jeffries of Golden City, Louey of Whittier, California, Isaac of Nevada, three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Frost and Mrs. Mabel Forst, both of Turlock, California, Mrs. Jennie Leedy of El Dorado Springs, forty one grandchildren and thirty six great grandchildren, also survive.
