John A. Kennedy was born to: John Young Kennedy and Martha Patsy Dunnegan Kennedy in what was to become Cedar County just a few months after his birth. He married Mary Bristow 06/29/1875 and they had one child Laura Jane. Mary died before the 1980 census, and John then married Nancy Catherine "Kate" Fitzgerald 03/29/1883 and they had the following children: John Samuel, Mary Jane "Mollie", Robert Elijah "Bob", Ivory Jane and Martha Edna. He lived his entire life in the Arnica area and was a farmer. He fought in the Fifteenth Union Cavalry along with his younger brother Francis during the "War Between The States". His granddaughter Mildred remembered him: "Grandpa J. A. was a red headed Irishman sometimes called 'Red' very jolly and good as gold". He is found in the Family Group Sheets.
