Betty Jane "Janie" Burkey, age 70, of Gap, PA passed away at her home on Monday, April 7, 2008. She was the wife of I. Glenn Burkey with whom she celebrated 38 years of marriage on March 7th. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Nagy. She was born in Cains, daughter of the late Ellis & Salome Stanley Plank. She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church of Gap, where she was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, church hospitality, and was assistant church administrator. Janie worked for numerous area sewing factories, working last at the former Ingham Sewing Factory of Leola. She graduated from Scott High School. She enjoyed bowling, golf, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, and working in her yard.
Surviving besides her husband are two brothers: John "Fredie" Plank of West Virginia, George husband of JoAnn Sandoe Plank of White Horse. She was preceded in death by 7 siblings: Charles, Paul, Donald, Robert Plank, Dorothy Stern, Ellen Bair, Ruth "Teetie" Harrington.
Funeral service will take place from the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1520 West Kings Highway, Gap, PA on Thursday, April 10th, at 10:30 A.M. with Father John Obenchain officiating. The interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 1520 West Kings Hwy., Gap, PA 17527. Arrangements by the Shivery Funeral Home, Christiana & Paradise.
