Richard Ray Brown, 71, of Blackburn, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 in Pawnee. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Pawnee. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Warren will officiate.
Brown was born on Nov. 15, 1931 in Blackburn to Bert Brown and Pearl Jano (Hamon) Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was the Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo Honoree in 2000. He was an active and longtime supporter of the Pawnee Bill Rodeo. He has been a valued participant in every rodeo cattle drive. He is a noted breeder of quarter horses and has been for 35 years. He was one of only 19 Oklahomans selected to the preferred breeders list by the American Quarter Horse Association. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Foundation Quarter Horse Association.
Brown worked as an accountant for the City Service of Bartlesville; Farmers Coop in Ralston, were he also served as a manager; Kingfisher Farmers Coop. He retired from the office of the State Auditor, where he served for almost 25 years. Between the years of 1970 to 1995, he took time off from the Auditors Office to serve as Pawnee County Treasurer from 1980 to 1983.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Pearl Brown; and two sisters, Berta Roller and Rose Siler.
Brown is survived by his three daughters, Shelly Henry, San Francisco, Calif., Beckie Hall, Blackburn, and Mickie Brown, Sand Springs; two grandchildren, Sarah Henry and Adam Hall; one sister, Alta Mae Jamison, Quinter, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
