Walter W. Ahlgrim, 95, of LaGrange Park, Illinois, and formerly of Elmhurst, Illinois, a second-generation Funeral Director, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2000.
Walter W. Ahlgrim earned his funeral director license in 1927. The founder of 5 funeral homes in Chicago and the city's Western Suburbs, Walter is survived in his family by third and fourth generation funeral directors.
He was Past Master and a 74-year member of Pleiades Lodge 478 A.F. & A.M., a member of Medinah Shrine Temple, "He Lived Respected and Died Regretted." He was also Past President and a Charter Member of West End Lions Club, Chicago; a current member of Streamwood Lions Club; and a former member of North Austin Lutheran Church.
Walter was the beloved husband of the late Ethel E. (nee Ritzma). He was the loving father of Arthur B. (Arlene), Robert W. (Elaine), and Roger D. (Margaret); the fond grandfather of Susan (Thomas) Stoddard, Scott (Kim), Steven, James, LCDR Michael (Catherine), John (Linda May), Linda, Douglas (Sandra), Laura (Tony) Reder, and Jeffrey (Kristina). He was the great-grandfather of 15: David and Mark, Allison and Nathan, Alicia and Michael Thomas, and Stephanie, Anjean and Melinda Mecklenburg, David and Richard, Cody and Casey Reder, Jonathan Gwizdala and Matthew.
