~back again~
(memory's lane)

she never has to drive
when she goes back again
across town
and lights up the room with her smile
while she walks down
memory's lane
to the old home place where she grew up
with all of them- mother, daddy
her sisters too
in the beautiful mountains
where they say the land is smoky blue
farming summer tobacco
and riding inter tubes
in the snow

and she tells about those
wooden frames that hung from the ceiling
of their old gnatty branch home
used on cold days
by her mother, sisters and some neighbor women
for making their beautiful quilts
and cross stitchings
to be sold to the tourists in gatlinburg
when they'd come back to town
in the spring …

after walking around a few minutes
she goes into the other room
while her smile fades away
with a blank stare out the window
suddenly, she forgets what to do
or doesn't recognize our faces…
unsure inside,
if you'll be able
to comfort her
this time
you remind her
you're her family or dearest friend
then slowly you see that beautiful smile
come back again

make the most of the all good times
and pray and hope for a cure
