Stephen M. Bryan

Sixth Street

Stephen Michael "Steve" Bryan, 31, of Sixth Street died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Bryan was a repair technician with SBC Ameritech. He was a member of Hartsville Church of Christ, Bartholomew County Chapter of ABATE of Indiana and Communications Workers Association Union.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, hunting and camping.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, on 25th Street with the Rev. Ed Furnas officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County, Hartsville Church of Christ or Abate of Indiana.

Mr. Bryan was born in Brockton, Mass., Nov. 21, 1970, the son of Fredrica "Freddie" Joan Ping of Columbus and adopted dad Robert Lee "Bob" Bryan of Columbus. He married Bridget S. Baldwin Feb. 17, 2001, at Hartsville. She survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Shelby Lee and Kerri Lynn Bryan, both of Columbus; a sister, Jessica Bryan of Bloomington; and Grandmothers, Theda Davis of Alpharetta, GA., and Betty Bryan of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by Grandfathers, Joe Davis and Robert Bryan.

The funeral for Steve Bryan, 31, of Sixth Street, was Saturday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Furnas officiating.

Cremation and inturnment at Garland Brook Cemetery will be at a later date. Pallbearers were Bob Bryan, Chris and Mark Baldwin, Mitchel Black, Rob Endicott, Vance Murray, Heath Stadler and Bobbie Hammond.

We had a chance to talk with Stephen's adopted dad and found out that Stephen died of a very rare form of bone cancer. It's called: Alveolar Soft Ports Sorcoma. To find out about this cancer please go here:

He was put on massive amounts of a steroid and chemo and other meds to try and kill off the cancer. The steroid caused Stephen to swell up really bad. He was determined to do all that he could to try and win the battle.
