Quanah Pioneer Buried Friday

QUANAH, Texas, Oct. 20. — Funeral services were held Friday for Judge M. M. Hankins, 82. who died Thursday following a lingering illness. Services were held at the First Methodist Church, with Rev W. A. Flynn officiating.
Judge Hankins came to Hardeman County 59 years ago, and was county attorney when the county seat was at Margaret. Later, after Quanah he came the county seat, he was elected county judge, and it was during his tenure of office that the new court house was built.
One time mayor of Quanah and also a member of the state livestock sanitary commission, he was active in early day government in this section. A Methodist, Mason and Shriner, and patron of the local chapter of the Eastern Star, he was prominent in civic and social affairs.
Surviving are his widow and two sons, R. C. Hankins of Goodlett, Texas, and Maj. Stayton Hankins of Quanah; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Faulkner of Childress, also survives.
